Santiago is not a dangerous city for this, it is a city of neighbourhoods: the same street changes character in three blocks and in two hours. What goes wrong is almost never violence and almost always transport - the car that changes route, the address that becomes another by message at the last minute, the building with no concierge on a street with no traffic. Put the address and the hour in writing before anyone moves, and take any last-minute change as a reason to stop rather than to hurry.
The law where you are standing
Chile is the unusual one in this list: selling sex is legal and formally regulated by health rules rather than criminal ones. The Sanitary Code expects a woman working to register with the health service and attend periodic testing to hold a sanitary card. In practice registration is patchy and the card proves attendance at a clinic, not identity, and never that the woman in the photographs is the woman at the door. Brothels are prohibited by the same Sanitary Code, and procuring and advertising by third parties are offences. Sex with anyone under 18, and any form of coercion or trafficking, are crimes prosecuted separately and seriously.
The setups that repeat
Almost nothing here is exotic. The same four or five scripts run in every city in Europe, and the only reason they still work is that men who feel embarrassed do not compare notes.
- The wrong woman. The gallery is a model from another country, the person at the door is not her, and by the time you notice you are already inside. It is the most common complaint in every city in Europe, and it is the exact failure a face and body video review exists to catch, which is why it is done here before a profile is ever published. An unverified listing is a photograph of nobody in particular.
- The moving price. What was agreed by message becomes something else in the room, with a new number attached. This is not a negotiation, it is a method. Agree once, in writing, before you travel - and treat any change as the end of the evening.
- The drink. A drink you did not watch being poured, in a private flat, from a stranger. Men are robbed this way far more often than they are attacked. Order your own, open your own, and if you leave the glass, leave the glass.
- The card. Someone offers to "hold" your card, take it to another room to charge it, or asks for a photograph of it. A card out of your sight is a card being cloned. Cash for the evening, card in your pocket.
- The interruption. Twenty minutes in, an angry "boyfriend", "husband" or "brother" arrives at the door and a payment makes the problem go away. It is theatre, it is rehearsed, and it is why you meet in places with a reception desk and cameras.
Before you go, in ninety seconds
- Agree everything once, in writing, before you travel: the address, the hour and what it costs. If any of the three moves at the last minute, that is a reason to stop, not a reason to hurry.
- Tell one person the address and the hour. You do not need to say why.
- Keep your phone charged and in your pocket, not on a table you may have to leave.
- If the place, the person or the tone is not what was agreed, leave. Five awkward minutes cost nothing; the alternative can cost a great deal.
If the police turn up
Two adults in a private room is not, by itself, a police matter in most of Europe. Stay still, stay polite, do not run and do not volunteer a story. You are allowed to say you would prefer to speak with a lawyer. Do not sign a statement in a language you do not read.

Money
- Carry what the evening costs and no more. An emptied wallet is a bad night; an emptied account is a bad year.
- Never send a deposit to a stranger by gift card, crypto, or a wire to a name that does not match the profile.
- Your card never leaves your hand. No card is ever "held at reception" for anything.
- If a price changes once you are in the room, the evening is over. Dress, leave, do not argue.
